Born Aug. 24, 1817, Little Rock, Arkansas.(His mother died while he was an infant and he was raised by his Maternal Aunt & her husband,Joel Walters. The Walters family migrated to Texas in 1824,bringing Levi with them.

Family records indicate Levi left the Walters home when he was 10. He lived with the Commanche Indians for about 6 months.


Levi lived in various counties throughout his life(Caldwell,DeWitt,Grimes & Montgomery) Levi was one of the early settlers of Dimmit County;settling Carrizo Springs.
Levi was known as "the Father of Carrizo Springs". He was a natural leader and led the settlers in the first fight against the Indians, bandits, and the outlaws.

Levi nor his wife Matilda could read or write; documents show their "X" on legal documents in Demmit County. Levi donated land for the Baptist church, Mt. Hope Cemetery, and the first school of Carrizo Springs.




February 22, 1839 Married Matilda Jane Burleson at Montgomery, Texas.
Levi and Matilda were the parents of 11 children.

Levi was a Texas Ranger & Cattleman

Levi died May 14, 1894, Carrizo Springs, Texas.
