Tuesday, 7 October 1930---GADSDEN TIMES

W.A.T. Oliver, 91, gallant Confederate soldier and pioneer citizen of Etowah County, died at his home near the city, Tuesday morning, the victim of old age.
Funeral services will be held at Mt. Zion church at 12:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. The burial will follow at Forrest cemetery here.
Mr. Oliver was born in Lowndesville, S.C. and moved here when quite a young man. He was a farmer of the old school and owned a large plantation near the city. He was a hay raiser and made considerable money at it. He never went in for one crop, however, and was known as a prosperous planter.
Mr. Oliver attended all of the state and national Confederate reunions for the past 40 years and was widely known all over the South because of the fact.
Surviving are a nephew, Henry Oliver, of Gadsden; and niece, Miss Cassie Oliver, a missionary to China.
Other nieces and nephews are Mrs. Arthur Rish of Steadman, S.C., Luther and Jeff Bowman and Mrs. Ida Cooley of Lowndesville, S.C., J.R. Robertson of Birmingham and Allen Robertson of Little Rock, Ark.
