They lived in that county for a number of years, and then in Rappanhannock Co., Virginia, before moving west to Ohio in the late 1840s. Dennis was listed in the census for Highland Co., Ohio, in 1850, along with his wife and several of his children. His wife died in 1863, and Dennis remarried to a widow, Mrs. Nancy Leming, on 22 June 1865 in Highland Co., Ohio.
He applied for and was granted a pension of $8/month for his service in the War of 1812 while living in Highland Co., Ohio. He had also applied for a bounty land warrant due to an earlier act of Congress.
