She was an Army civil servant for the rest of her life, working at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, from 1995 onward.

She was survived by her mother, her sister, her two brothers, her son, her daughter, and her six grandchildren.
Rest easy now; your journey's done.
Peace has found you at last.
You lived your life with all your heart
And did not look back with regret.
You fought a valiant fight,
Your courage an example to us all.
With kind words and gentle thoughts,
We'll remember you.
Sleep well knowing you are loved.
