William was 22 months old, a son of Thomas Curtis & Mary Jane Hooker
He had a brother
1901 - 1957 Thomas James Curtis (+Coyle)

Woodville Examiner, 9 Aug 1901
CURTIS
- On Thursday, 8th inst., at Papatawa, accidentally drowned, William, the beloved son of Thomas and Mary Curtis; aged 22 months.

*A sad accident happened yesterday at Papatawa. Mrs Thomas Curtis who was at home with her two children, missed the elder, a fine little fellow nearly two years old. On searching all around she at last found him in a little creek which runs through the garden. She got him into the house and called for her neighbours, Mesdames Meacham and Blake, who quickly came and tried all the restoratives they knew of. but without avail, as life was extinct. An inquest was held this morning before Mr E. J. Gothard, coroner and a jury of which Mr G. Francis was foreman, a verdict being brough in that deceased was accidentally drowned, no blame being attachable to anyone. The jury, through their foreman, expressed their deep sympathy with the parents, in which we are sure all our readers will join.
The funeral will leave the parents' residence at 2 p.m. on Sunday for the Woodville Cemetery
