He was the fourth of eight children of Floyd and Louise Price Adams. The family moved to rural Bushong, where he attended school. He married Una Shellenberger at the Council Grove United Methodist parsonage on July 31, 1940. They were married for 67 years, before she preceded him in death on March 7, 2008.
Jack lived in this community all his life except for three years when the family moved to Leoti, KS. He spent the early part of his married life as a farmer in the Four Mile Community. Jack & Una owned & operated the Hilltop CafeŒ for several years. He worked as a mechanic for the John Deere dealership until they closed. Then he became a building contractor and built over 40 houses and many additions in the Council Grove area.
He was a member of the Council Grove United Methodist Church and loved working in his garden and sharing his corn and tomatoes. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his wife, his parents, son Danny Adams, brother Denman Adams, sisters, Louise Pykiet, Dorothy Bowman, Minnie Jean Worcester, Helen Gilbert, infant sister, Betty Lou Adams, and son-in-law Barry Cooper.
Survivors include three sons, Larry Adams & wife Barbara, Mike Adams & wife Alice, Terry Adams & wife Debbie; two daughters, Jackie Adams & Debbie Cooper; daughter-in-law, Geneva Adams; and sister, Darlene Wilkerson, all of Council Grove; 14 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, with one on the way.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., May 27, 2008 at the Council Grove United Methodist Church.
Interment will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association &/or Midland Hospice.
