William L. "Lefty" Duncan, 89, of Carlisle, passed away Friday, October 16, 2009, in the Sarah A. Todd Memorial Home in Carlisle. He was born on Friday, October 15, 1920, in Newville, and was a son of the late John Duncan and Matilda (Souders) Nolf and was married to the late Esther (Walters) Duncan, who died Sept. 27, 2005.

Lefty was formerly employed by Carlisle Tire & Rubber Co. and retired from Carlisle SynTec with a combined 38 years of service. He was a member of McClure's Gap Church of God, Newville and was a 50 year member of the Williams Grove Historical Steam Engine Association. Lefty was preceded in death by one son, William L. Duncan, two brothers; Ambrose and Robert Duncan and one sister, Martha Landis.

He is survived by two children; Randall E. (and his wife, Tammy) Duncan of Carlisle and Judith A. Duncan also of Carlisle, one brother, Donald Calaman of Texas, four sisters; Gladys Heiges of Newville, Patricia Newhouse of Hershey, Bertha Grippen of Newville and Thersa Smith of North Carolina, two grandsons; William Ocker and Ronald Duncan, one granddaughter, Jamie Duncan, two great-grandchildren; Nicholas Ocker and Ashley Duncan and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in the Opossum Hill Church Cemetery, Carlisle, with Pastor Bob Baldwin officiating. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
