US Congressman. Born on the family farm near Bremond, Texas, he served in the United States House of Representatives from March 1915 to January 1935, as a representative from Oklahoma's 7th Congressional District. He began his career as a traveling salesman in Missouri, before moving to the Oklahoma Territory in 1902. Arriving in the town of Snyder, he took a position as the city clerk in 1908, after farming in the region for several years. In 1909 he was elected to the office of Kiowa County clerk, and from 1911 to 1914, he served in both the Oklahoma House of Representatives and the Oklahoma State Senate. Educated at what is now Texas Cristian University and Georgetown's School of Law, he was admitted to the state bar association in 1928. During his tenure in Congress he served on numerous committees including: The Expenditures on Public Buildings Committee, the Patents and Public Lands Committee, the House Ways and Means Committee and the Naval Affairs Committee. Following defeat for re-election to Congress in 1934, he served as an executive assistant to the governor of Oklahoma from 1935 to 1940. Returning to Washington D.C. in 1940, he worked as an administrative assistant in the Department of Vehicles and Traffic, as a special assistant to the Secretary of the Interior, and as a member of the U.S. War Department. Following government service he returned to Oklahoma and the practice of law. He died from a massive heart attack outside of Chicago, Illinois, while traveling on a train en route to Los Angeles, California.
