Shawn was my nephew and the only son of my brother, Roy B. and Ethel McCormick, divorced at the time of the accident. I was living in Lynn Haven, FL at the time. My Mother lived with my family and I. As I came in from work on that terrible day I found my Mother sitting in her room crying and she informed me of the tragedy. Shawn and my son, Brian McCormick, were good friends. This dealt him and all of the family a blow that will always be in our minds. Shawn is buried in Santa Cruz, California at The Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery.
Around 1985 Shawn met a girl named Rhonda Grace Kennedy. They had a little girl that they named Amber Lynne born on January 6, 1988 in Santa Cruz. She was one year and eight months old at the time of her Fathers death. Her parents were never married.
We all miss you Shawn and you will always have a place in our hearts.

Remembering my brother, Shawn McCormick
I was downtown at the Yellow Cab CO on Walnut Ave when it hit ... My entire family contacted me very soon after it hit except my Brother Shawn McCormick ... He was an employee at the Coffee Roasting Company on Pacific Avenue ... I had asked the fire department that shared the parking lot with the Taxi Co if they knew anything regarding the Coffee Roasting Co and any employees. They then told me that two people were trapped inside the building, and at that moment I knew one of them was my brother. ... My entire family drove over to the coffee roasting building that was not standing any longer and it was there that we learned that my brother had been killed. He was 21 years young and definitely GONE TOO SOON ... We miss him and love him very much.
