"PARM" LANDON, FORMER COUNTY OFFICIAL DIES

FUNERAL RITES HERE SATURDAY FOR EX-REPRESENTATIVE, SHERIFF

Palmer "Parm" Landon, former state representative and sheriff for Isabella County, Michigan, died at his Lance Lake cottage home in Cheboygan County, Michigan, died Wednesday, February 18, 1953. He was 80 years old.
Funeral rites for Mr. Landon, who devoted nearly half a century in a career in public service, will be held at the Stinson Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant (Isabella County), Michigan, on Saturday, February 21, at 2:00 P.M.
Isabella County citizens elected Mr. Landon eleven times in the span of years between 1907 and 1948, indicative of the esteem he was held.
Born February 5, 1873, on a farm in Chippewa Township, the son of one of Isabella County's prominent pioneer families, "Parm" was educated in the country schools and worked as a farmer and cheesemaker until 1907.
In 1907, he was elected Isabella County Sheriff for ten years, followed by many years as a special investigator and warden for the state conservation department. For a number of years, he was an agent for the Gleaner's Association in Indiana and Michigan.
In 1891, Mr. Landon and Mary Hall, the daughter of another pioneer family, were united in marriage, and celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, in Mt. Pleasant (Isabella County), Michigan, on December 25, 1941, and Mrs. Landon died on July 20, 1949.
"Parm" returned to county public service in 1932, when he won re-election as county sheriff and in 1937, he was elected state representative. He served five consecutive two-year terms, from 1938-1948, being succeeded by the incumbent Representative Hugh D. Johnston, of Rosebush, Michigan.
During his career in the House of Representatives, Mr. Landon's service was marked by his strong support of education and conservative legislation. During his career as sheriff and representative, he was respected as a fearless and conscientious official of high personal integrity.
Mr. and Mrs. Landon made their home in Mt. Pleasant, on South Franklin Street, for many years, where his trophy room was a silent spokesman of his skill as a woodsman, hunter and fisherman and as a law enforcement officer.
Many men in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, gained much of their deer hunting skill from "Parm", who until poor health forced him off the trail, brought home his buck, without failure each season.
Mr. Landon was a staunch Republican throughout his political career and was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Gleaner's and Eastern Star.
He had sold his home in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan and moved to Lance Lake, near Wolverine, Michigan two years ago, where a cousin, Mabel Tully, had cared for him.
He is survived by his son, Harold, of Plymouth, Indiana; two brothers, Adelbert, of Gladwin, Michigan and George in Washington State; three granddaughters, Mrs. Helen Butts, of Lansing (Ingham County), Michigan and Mrs. Dorothy Woodward and Mrs. Betty Moders, of Midland, Michigan; one niece, Mrs. Clifford Speers, of Grand Rapids, Michigan and a nephew, Cecil Morrison, of South Bend, Indiana.
Dr. C.W. MacKenzie, pastor of the First United Methodist Church will officiate the Saturday rites and burial will be in the Chippewa Township Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.
