A memorial service will be held for Bandon resident, Violet Rose Stevenson, 83, at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct.17, at the First Presbyterian Church, 592 Edison Ave., SW Bandon. A private committal service will follow at the Bandon IOOF Cemetery.

Violet was born Aug. 10, 1926, in Bandon, the daughter of Ennis and Viola Loshbaugh. She died Oct. 14, 2009, in Coquille.

As a young girl, she survived the Bandon Fire of 1936. For many years, she and her husband, Gale, lived in the Four Mile area south of Bandon and raised cranberries. In her earlier years she worked at Shindler's Drug Store, McNair Hardware and retired as an insurance agent at Kronenberg and Waldrop.

Violet married Gale Stevenson July 29, 1953, and celebrated more than 56 years together. She was an active member of the Grange, Langlois-Port Orford School Board, a 4-H leader and volunteered at the Bandon Historical Society.

She was known for her beautiful quilts, was a talented oil painter and was always up for a good game of cards.

She is survived by her husband, Gale Stevenson; daughters, Connie and Chuck Brook of Medford, Linda and Tom Malmay of LaPine and Jane and Oku Shigeo of Coquille; stepson, Gary Stevenson; her brothers and sisters, William "Bud" Loshbaugh, Betty Lunan and John Loshbaugh; six grandchildren, Andrea, Krystal, Lee, Christopher, Marshelle and Kim; one great-grandchild, Haley; and many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are under the direction of Amling Schroeder Funeral Service, Bandon, 347-2907.
