Charles Means born in Manchester, NH 1855 son of William G. Means, paymaster of the Land and Water Co of Amoskeag Mfg Co. Charles learned the machinist trade as an apprentice earning 65 cents per day. Good at mathemetics, he was taken into the office of the Manchester Locomotive Works and eventually promoted to paymaster. After the death of Aretas Blood in 1897, he took over the operation of the Manchester Locomotive Works.

This distinctive monument topped by a Celtic cross was designed by the Tiffany Company of New York, copy righted in 1902.
