J.W. French Dead.

Another Old Settler Called Home By the Grim Reaper.

Another Old settler of Arkansas City was taken away last night, when death came to J.W. French, who for the past twenty-eight years, has made this city his home. Bright's disease caused his death and he has been a sufferer for several months.

The deceased was born in Bridgeport, Conn., November 4, 1833, and was at the time of his death, 73 years of age. In the city where he was born, he learned the trade of ship builder, and served throughout the war in the Brooklyn navy yard. After the war, he moved west to Geneva Lake, Wis., engaging in the boat building business there.

Twenty-eight years ago he moved to Kansas, where he has lived ever since. The deceased leaves a wife and three children, John and Joseph French, and Mrs. W.A. Scothorn, of Winfield.

The funeral arrangements are being delayed until the arrival of Joseph French, from St. Louis and will be announced later.

The passing of Mr. French takes another good citizen from our midst. He has during his residence here, been a quiet, unassuming man, whose death will be regretted by a large number of friends.

Mr. French belonged to but one secret society and that was the A.O.U.W. of this city. He was a charter member of the local lodge.
