Adoniram died from disease in the Civil War. He was enlisted in the 6th Vermont Infantry and part of the First Vermont Brigade. In April 1862, the brigade was incorporated into the Army of the Potomac as the 2nd Brigade, 2nd Division, VI Corps, and first saw action during Maj. Gen. George B. McClellan's Peninsula Campaign in the battles of Williamsburg and Savage's Station, VA. On Jun 29, 1862, Adoniram was wounded and taken prisoner by the Confederate Army, dying on Oct 25, 1862. The family of Adoniram Bagley placed a Memorial Marker in the West Topsham Cemetery with his parents and siblings. His body is buried at Hampton National Cemetery in Hampton, VA.
