Esley Tate Center, 72, of 840 Goodjoin Road, died August 17, 2006 at Emory University Hospital. A native of Greenville County, he was the son of the late Ansel and Necie Howard Sudduth Center, and husband of Becky Arms.
He was a member of Ebenezer Welcome Baptist Church and retired from Earnhardt Lumber.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Marty Center and wife Betty of Landrum; two daughters, Diann Sheehan of Liberty and Emily Center of Inman; four brothers, Rev. Ansel Center of Kings Mountain, Earl Center of Spencerville, Md., Ellis Center and Jim Plumley, both of Landrum; four sisters, Ruth Bruce of Tryon, Ruby Rogers, Joyce Strange and Theresa Williams, all of Landrum; and special grandchildren, David Lee and Derek Center; 5 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara Brown; a sister, Gaynell Turnell; four brothers, Milton, Wilton, and Alender Sudduth and Doynell Center.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Petty Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Petty Funeral Chapel, conducted by Pastor Shane Jackson and Dr. Walter Johnson.
Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
