John G. Shreckengost, 86, a lifelong resident of Putneyville and vicinity, died Sunday in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mabel Adams of distant. He had been an invalid for the past two years.

He was born in Putneyville May 25, 1876; a son of Eli and Mary Ellen (Brown) Shreckengost.

His wife, Mrs. Annie Rebecca Shreckengost, died in April 1947. He was a member of the Putneyville Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

Mr. Shreckengost had worked as a laborer all his life in the Putneyville area, employed by the Phillips Gas Company and also the coal mines and the woods.

He is survived by four sons, Charles, of Franklin; Amos of New Castle; Ervin George, of Parker; and Ray, of Darby; six daughters: Mrs. Frank (Estella) Blake, of Lakewood, NY; Mrs Mabel Adams, of distant; Mrs. Lee (Gladys) Shantz, of Zionsville; Mrs. Alberta Altes, of Oil City; Mrs. Fred (Mollie) Shreckengost, of New Bethlehem and Mrs. John (Virginia) Hoffman, of Plainfield; Numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and a half sister, Mrs. Louise Beichner, of Celoron, NY.

Three of his children are deceased: Paul, Ivan and Russell.
Friends will be received after noon today, in the John F. Reiss Funeral Home, in New Bethlehem.
