Joseph Francis Wysocki was born into a Polish immigrant family in the Polish-American town of Hamtramck. His Mother and Father both died when he was 5 years old. He was raised by the nuns at St. Francis Home for Boys in Detroit. At the age of 13 he was on his own and working for 60 cents per week plucking chickens. He was drafted into the army during WWII and became a Staff Sergeant in the 424th infantry Anti-Tank Company. Because of the prejudice of the day, Joe changed his last name to Wyson. After the war he moved to California where he married Barbara Jones. They had 11 children: Rebecca, Joseph, Daniel, Elizabeth, Matthew, Jennifer, Colleen, Catherine, John, David, Amy and a daughter from a previous marriage: Kathleen. Joe had an even dozen. Joe, or Papa as he was called, had a brilliant mind and a thirst for knowledge. He was an accomplished writer and wrote beautiful poetry.

Mirror, mirror on the wall
Show the defects that forestall
The making of the man I'd be,
If from delusion I were free.
Mirror, mirror, let me see
Nothing but reality.

Papa is truly missed by his family but has much work to do on the other side.
