Walter Skelton dies; funeral held today
Walter E. Skelton, 82, 413 W. Humiston St., died Saturday at 8:20 p.m. at St. James Hospital after a brief illness.
His funeral was held at 1:30 p.m. today at teh Raleigh J. Harris Funeral Home, with the Rev. Glenn Ioder of the Methodist Church officiating. Mrs. James McCabe was organist.
Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Joe Browning, Decatur; Major Rober Hansen, Rantoul; Howard Hansen, McKenzie, Tenn.; robert Skelton, Bluffton, IN.; Dr. Don Vespa, Marseilles, and Floyd Gruber, Pontiac.
Mr. Skelton was born Nov. 17, 1891 at Toluca, a son of Frank and Henrietta (Michem) Skelton. He was married to Bessie Condee. She died in 1943. Nov. 27, 1946 he was married to Lela Mae Smith.
He was a retired employe of the Pontiac Prison. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, World War I Barracks and the American Legion. He was a veteral of World War I.
Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Clyde Browning, Decatur; a step-daughter, Mrs. Howard Hansen, McKenzie, Tenn.; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters and one son.
