When the roll is called up yonder, I'll be there. Born June 9, 1921, in Watson, to William Edgar and Laura Curtis Underwood, Hugh Page Underwood died at his home in Denham Springs on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, at 88 years of age. Retired for 33 years from Exxon, he enjoyed a long life of music, gardening and the love of his family. He served his country in the Civilian Conservation Corps, in the U.S. Coast Guard and was a veteran of World War II. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Denham Springs and a former Cub Scout pack leader. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Eunice Miller Underwood; three sons and their spouses, Michael Page and Barbara Underwood, of Hiawassee, Ga., Malvin Boyd and Gail Underwood, of Cartersville, Ga., and Ralph Paul and Margi Underwood, of Baton Rouge; and daughter, Deborah Jean Underwood, of Denham Springs. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Monica Sonnier, Carmen Berry, Becky Lambert, Matthew Underwood, Brigette Brown, Mandy Underwood, Lauren Underwood and Jackie Underwood; seven great-grandchildren, Meagon Burchfield, Laine Tremé, Sarah Sonnier, Morgan Berry, Rhyan Brown, Chloé Lambert and Logan Brown; and two brothers, Calvin Fulton Underwood and James Malcolm Underwood. Preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and four sisters. Visiting at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs, on Thursday, Oct. 15, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. until service at 10 a.m. Pallbearers will be his grandson and great-grandson, Matthew Underwood and Laine Tremé; grandsons-in-law, Mike Sonnier, Jamie Berry, Cam Brown and Stephen Lambert; and nephew, Jerry Underwood. Honorary pallbearers are Carroll Jordan, A.J. Lavigne and Alton Leggette. Burial in Denham Springs Memorial Cemetery. The family deeply appreciates the staff of Promise Hospital on O'Neal Lane and Hospice of Baton Rouge for their care and support.
