William Thomas "Dub" Hitt, age 89, of Oneonta, passed away September 2, 2008. He was born to the late William Walter and Maggie Hitt. He retired from the State Highway Department and Alabama Power Company. He was a member of Lester Memorial United Methodist Church. He is a member of the Masonic Lodge # 324, Shriners, and IBEW of Alabama Power. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force 8th, Bomber Group 303 and he was a WWII Veteran P.O.W. He served two Tours of duty, received the Distinguished Flying Cross, three bronzed stars and the Air Medal. He started the Oneonta National Guard and it was later named after him. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Maggie Ewing Hitt; son, Hal Hitt; one sister; and two brothers.
