Mr. Harold Dean Staley, age 68, of Boone Trail, North Wilkesboro died Monday, October 20, 2008 at his home.

A memorial graveside service, with military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1142, was held Friday, October 24 at Old Reddies River Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Mace Johnson officiating.

Mr. Staley was born in Wilkes County, January 18, 1940, to Thomas (Tam) and Georgia Harless Staley. He attended Winston-Salem Barber School, graduating in January of 1966.

Mr. Staley served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was awarded the Bronze Spear for heroism and devotion to duty. During an attack, his Battle Group was stalemated and forced to reorganize in order to continue the attack. Mr. Staley stood his ground in the face of superior aggressor forces and without regard to his personal safety, allowing the Battle Group to reorganize without serious impairment.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Staley was preceded in death by two brothers, Ben Staley and Jack Staley.

Mr. Staley is survived by a sister, Ann Staley Greene and husband, Sonny of Millers Creek; several nieces and nephews.
