A long time resident of Madison County, Mrs. Nance was born on April 6, 1912 in Henderson County Tennessee to Sena Ethridge Newman and John Burton Newman. During World War II she worked at the Milan Arsenal and later worked for AP Grocery. After her retirement as a nursing assistant Mrs. Nance served for 20 years as an American Red Cross Volunteer at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. She was an active member of North Jackson Baptist Church for 55 years.
Her husband L.O. Nance; two sons Thomas A. Nance and Larry D. Nance; and five siblings Alton Newman, Estalee Nance, Tommy Newman, Mary Armstrong and Fred Newman preceded her in death.
Survivors include three daughters Betty Edwards, Hilda Nance and Mary Ann (Bruce) Hamblen all of Jackson. One sister Mildred Walker of Jackson; eight grandchildren Mark Barfield, Brian Hamblen, Hillary Ann Hamblen, Tommy Nance, Denise Fairley, Michael Nance, Becky Bowers and Joseph Nance; 8 great grandchildren 2 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Pallbearers will be Mark Barfield, Brian Hamblen, Michael Nance, Tommy Nance, Jerry Newman and Kenneth Newman.
Visitation will be Wednesday August 25, 2004 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home 731-424-2424
