MYERS, John H. - John H. Myers, a Civil War veteran and one of the two remaining Union soldiers in Bentonville, answered the last roll call at 4:30 this Thursday morning. He was 93 1/2 years of age and lived here for 30 years. He had been ill from a complication of diseases for several months. For the past three weeks Mr. Myers had been gradually growing weaker and the end came peacefully this morning. Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10 o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M.J. Kilbourn on West C Street, near Eighth. Services will be conducted by Rev. George B Keelem, pastor of the Christian Church. Burial will be made in the City Cemetery by the side of his wife who died in 1911. Born in Clarksville, Ind. Oct. 10,1837 Mr. Myers moved with his parents to Harrison County, Mo. when 12 years of age. In his early manhood he was a pioneer school teacher but at the outbreak of the Civil War Mr. Myers enlisted in Merrill's Horse, 2nd Regiment, Missouri Cavalry. He was discharged on account of illness but later joined the Missouri State Militia. In 1862 he married Miss Samantha Miller and made their home near Bethany, Mo. for many years. They moved to Bentonville in 1901. Since the death of Mrs. Myers in 1911 Mr. Myers has made his home with his niece, Mrs. M.J. Kilbourn, and Mr. Kilbourn. Surviving Mr. Myers besides his niece, Mrs. Kilbourn of Bentonville, are his sister, Mrs. Mary Eades of Mutual, Okla. who lived near Bentonville until a few months ago, and his brother, Will Myers of Bethany, Mo.
