In 1956 he started his own small business, Paxton Production Tools Incorporated, which has been a successful enterprise for over 44 years. Wendell was also a former member of the Ambassador Club, The Salt Lake Country Club, and The Alta Club.

He was preceded in death by a son, Frederick Day Paxton, in May 1966, and by a granddaughter, Jacqueline Lee Paxton, in January 1972. Also preceded in death by five brothers and a sister.
