LeRoy Kenneth Copeland passed peacefully into heaven Jan. 29 at St. Marks Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah with his wife Yolanda and daughter Erin at his side. LeRoy was born December 3, 1937, in Aberdeen Idaho, the son of Carlisle Calvin Copeland and Nedra Esther Vasrgason and was the 3rd of 8 children. After graduating from Aberdeen High School, he served 4 years in the United States Navy.
He married Patricia Spurrier, they were later divorced. He is survived by 4 children born of this union. Cathy Hutchinson, Buck (Kristi) Copeland, Jeanette (Chad) Slichter, and Joe Copeland. He had a lifelong love of horses. He worked on ranches and farms as a young man. He was a member of the Aberdeen Boots and Saddle Club and rode with his uncle Hassell Vargason for eight years. He also enjoyed team roping and won many trophies and ribbons. He worked as an industrial maintenance man for J.R. Simplot in Aberdeen and as an original member of the maintenance team when Great Western Malting opened in 1981 in Pocatello.
LeRoy married Yolanda Blair on Valentines Day, 1978. He is survived by his wife, son Jeff (Jaime) Osborne daughter Erin, and is preceded in death by his son Andrew Osborne.
LeRoy volunteered at Salt Lake County Aging Services. He also was a campground host in Idaho and Wyoming after retiring from Conveyors Equipment in 2000.
LeRoy was the proud and loving grandfather of 18 grandchildren; he also has several nieces and nephews. He is survived by his brother David (Carol) Copeland, and sister Ann (Francisco) Hurtado. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Duane Copeland, sister Patricia Corwin, and sister Ethel Austin.
The funeral services to be held Wednesday, Feb. 4 at 11 a.m. at the Assembly of God, 329 Harrison Street, American Falls, ID 83211. The visitation will be held Tuesday, Feb. 3 from 6-8 p.m. at Davis-Rose Mortuary 170 Idaho St. American Falls, 83211 and Wednesday, Feb. 4 one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will follow church services at Mountain View Cemetery in Pocatello with military honors by the Pocatello Combined Honor Guard.
