Ivan Thomas Barney was born Nov. 15, 1925, in Lewisville, Idaho, to Francis Marion Barney, Jr. and Elsie Labell Hill Barney. He attended schools in Gooding and served with the US Army during World War II and the Korean conflict.

After returning home, he lived in the Pocatello area and in Sandpoint and Coeur d'Alene before moving to Blanchard.

He was married to Bonnie Jean Wells in 1951; they were later divorced.

He worked as an auto and heavy equipment mechanic.

He passed away Sunday, Oct. 23, 1988, in a Boise nursing home. He is survived by 3 sons, Lee Barney, Pocatello, Wally Barney, Battle Ground, Washington, and Lynn Barney, Odessa, Washington; 2 daughters, Linda Burlile, Hermanston, Oregon, and Elaine Hendrix, Nampa, Idaho; 2 brothers, Dean Barney, Shoshone, and Reid W. Barney, Wapato, Washington; 4 sisters, Lenor Williams, Idaho Falls, Idaho, Merle Silva, Shoshone, Elda Jenkins, Gooding, Idaho, and Ina Barney, Seattle, Washington; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, 3 sisters, and a son, Donald Gene Barney.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Oct. 28, at Demaray's Gooding Chapel, with Bishop Larry Strickland officiating. Burial in the Mountain View Cemetery in Pocatello.
