Faithful Mother Succumbs to Disease That Took Three Children From the Family Circle
Mrs. Hans Johnson died at her home just east of town on Monday, October 19th, after a lingering illness, at the age of 63 years. The cause of death was tuberculosis, contracted no doubt during her many hours of care that she was called upon to give her children, three of whom have passed from this disease.
Mr. & Mrs. Johnson were among the early settlers of this locality, owning a neat farm property one mile east of town. To them six children were born, four girls and two sons, of whom one son and two daughters, grown to young womanhood had answered the final summons, while two daughters, Lizzie and Doris and one son, Will Johnson survive, the latter having his home on the east side of town.
Mrs. Johnson was born at Odesuse, Denmark, April 22, 1862. After coming to America she lived in Minneapolis four years, and was married to Hans Johnson February 9, 1884, at Rochester.
She was a quiet home loving woman, giving of her abilities to the children that came to share her home and sparing no effort to make life and the home surroundings enjoyable for those that shared its environment.
She will be lovingly remembered by the neighbors and always kindly spoken of by those who knew her.
The funeral was held Tuesday from the home, Rev. J. F. Schulz preaching the sermon, and interment was made at Greenwood Cemetery.
A brother G. Nelson, was here to attend the funeral. Others from out of town in attendance were Mrs. Jens Tvenstrupp and two daughters from Mahnomen.
