Lyman Gene (Jean) Veronie

Lyman Gene Veronie, 77, of Port Arthur, went home to be with the Lord December 14, 2006. Lyman was born January 28, 1929 in Lafayette Parish, Louisiana to the late Andrew and Cecil Lantier Veronie.

He was honorable discharged in 1947 from the Air Force. Lyman was a mill wright for Oliver Manufacturing until it closed, then Osborne Cabinets until he retired in 1992. Lyman was an avid fiddle player, and was inducted into the Cajun French Music Association Hall of Fame. He played music with several bands, including Jerry Belot and his Cajun friends, Phil Menard and the Louisiana Travelers, and Joe Simon and the Louisiana Cajuns as well as other bands. His hobbies were playing music and working on the fiddles he loved.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Corita Hollier Veronie of Port Arthur; 4 daughters, Gail Paul (John) of Groves, Darnell Guy (David) of Port Neches, Brenda Baker (Randy) of Bridge City, and Nancy Rose (Charles) of Port Arthur; son, Sampson Veronie of Port Arthur; brother, Emerson Veronie of Lake Charles, Louisiana; 2 sisters, Eunice Dodd of Alexandria, Louisiana, and Mary Sedetal of Baton Rough, Louisiana; 9 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Interment will follow at Memory Gardens of Jefferson County Cemetery.
