BEAR RIVER CITY- Lela Jenson Anderson passed away Thursday, June 27, 2002 at the Brigham City Community Hospital of natural causes. She was born May 15, 1908 in Bear River City, the third of the six children of Alfred Christian and Elvinia A. Jenson. She married Harland Lee Anderson on June 1, 1944 in Salt Lake City. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple.

Lela was a life long resident of Bear River City, she received her education at Bear River City Elementary and Box Elder High School. She received an Associates Degree in 1927 from Weber Junior College and her Bachelors in Education from Utah State University in 1960. She spent 34 years teaching in the Box Elder School District, beginning in Blue Creek. She also taught in Tremonton, Willard, Brigham City, Elwood, and Bear River City. In 1989 the Theta Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa recognized her as 'Teacher of the Year". She enjoyed her teaching experiences and loved her numerous conversations with her former students.

Lela was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. During her lifetime, Bear River City grew from one ward to three wards, and she was a member of each. She was also an active member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

She is survived by her son - Fred (Kathleen) Anderson of Pleasant View, Utah; five grandchildren - Jayne (Shaun) Oertwig of Brentwood, CA, Nancy (Alvin) Ulsh of Oakley, CA, Brian (Heidi) Anderson of Bear River City, Jon Pomrenke of American Fork, and Gretchen Lee Anderson of Pleasant View; one sister – Eleanor Williams of Salt Lake City; one brother - A. Calvin (Shiriey) Jenson of Brigham City; eight great- grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters - Lois Christensen and Blanche Budge; and one brother - Percy Johnson.

Funeral Service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2002 at the Bear River LDS Church, 5870 North 4700 West. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday July 1 , 2002 at Rogers & Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East -Tremonton, and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.

Interment will be in the Beai River City Cemetery.

Lela was extremely proud of her Bear River Heritage. Family suggests donations be made to the Bear River City Community Center, c/o Bear River City Corporation, Bear River City, UT 84301 for a pictorial history of Bear River City.
