Helen Maurice Meggs, 92, of McGehee Arkansas, passed into the loving arms of her Savior on Monday, June 1, 2020. She was born December 9, 1927 in Bernice, Louisiana to John Pleasant and Docia Tubbs Abbott.

Helen loved to read, especially westerns from Louis L'amore. She was a member of the Foothills Baptist Church in Mt. View, Arkansas. Helen was an accomplished artisan, plying her skills in a number of crafts. She was an avid quilter and seamstress. She made most of her clothes, especially her "church" clothes. She won several blue ribbons for quilts over the years at local county fairs. Later, she became a quite accomplished oil painter. She loved music, especially Gospel, and also learned to play the violin. She had a strong interest in family history and contributed to several family genealogical studies and researches.

As an artist, Helen was a member of the Mountain View Art Guild. She used her family genealogies as she wrote an autobiography of her life in Louisiana dedicated to her grandchildren. One of her greatest achievements later in life was her volunteer work at the Ozark Cultural Resource Center, a division of the Ozark Folk Center in Mountain View, Arkansas. She applied her experience as a librarian to organize over 100,000 records, making them more accessible for research. For her many hundreds of hours of work, in the year 2000, she was honored as the first recipient of the park's volunteer award. Since then, this annual award has carried her name: "The Helen Meggs Volunteer of the Year" Award.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, William "Bill" Meggs.

Survivors include her children, Glen Meggs and his wife, Betsy, of Dallas, Texas, Rusty Meggs and his wife, Lorrie, of Sheridan, David Meggs and his wife, Debra, of Traskwood; grandchildren, Adam, Katie, Brooke, Kellie, and Kandi, and great-grandchildren, Anthony, David, Lacey, and Jaxon.

A short Graveside Service with immediate family only will be Thursday, June 4, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Camp Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Spearsville, Louisiana, 177 Camp Creek Church Road, Spearsville, LA, 71277.
