Ruby Norman Harris, 83, of 180 Wildwood Ave., Martinsville, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, at Tender Years Adult Care in Martinsville.

She was born in Rural Retreat on Feb. 5, 1925, to James Preston Norman and Marisa Adeline Steffey Norman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James Roy Norman; and two half-brothers, William Vergil Price and Filbert Price.

She was a 1943 graduate of Rural Retreat High School and retired from DuPont after 37 years of service. She was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church for 15 years and was a prior member of Chatham Heights United Methodist Church. At these churches, she had served as an administrative board counselor and on several committees, including the bereavement committee. She was a lifelong member of the Disabled American Veterans Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving are her husband, Fred Dewey Harris of the home; one sister, Nellie Mae Norman Powell of Rural Retreat; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Norris Funeral Services with the Rev. Philip Waltz officiating. Entombment will be at Roselawn Abbey in Martinsville.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour before the funeral Sunday, and other times at the home.
