Asheville - Katharine B. Hunter, 92, of Asheville, died Monday, March 26, 2007.

She was a native and life long resident of Buncombe County. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Andrew and Alice Fischer Brandl.

Katharine was a graduate of Lee H. Edwards High School and a life long member of the Basilica of St. Lawrence. She was a member of the Western North Carolina Historical Association, the Kenilworth Book Club and a prominent Asheville bridge club until it disbanded. Katharine was also a veteran actress, charter member, and past president of the Asheville Community Theater. A generous woman, she spent a lot of time volunteering with Meals on Wheels and Santa Pals.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 61 years, John E. Hunter, and her daughter, Elaine Hunter Meyers.

Katharine is survived by a sister, Carolyn Mattox; three nieces, Lynn Mattox, Jill Mattox and Dee Cordell; a great nephew, Will Wilson; and many close and loving friends.

There will be a mass of Christian burial on Thursday, at the Basilica of St. Lawrence with Father Morris Boyd officiating.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, at Morris Funeral Home, 304 Merrimon Ave. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
