Freda Margaret Ellis, 84, Altoona, died Saturday at her daughter's home in Hollidaysburg. She was born in Maddensville, daughter of Orris M. & Ida Ruth (Cramer) Brown. She married James E. Ellis III Nov. 10, 1945, in Chambersburg, PA and he died July 28, 2000. Surviving are a daughter, Kathy Di Folco & husband, Dennis, of Hollidaysburg; a son, Gregory Ellis & wife, Nancy, of Altoona; four grandchildren: George DiFolco, James Ellis, Lori Shaner and Eileen Ellis; two great-granddaughters: Alexandra and Zoe Ellis; and six siblings: Inez Barnett of Waterfall, Viola Pollock and Wilda Mills of Chambersburg, Janet Fraker of Fort Littleton, Nelson Brown of Burnt Cabins and Russell Brown of Chambersburg. Pre-deceased by brothers: Leo and Richard Brown; and four sisters: Geraldine Horne and Dorothy, Maxine and Audrey Brown. Freda retired as a dietary aide from the former Mercy Hospital, Altoona, and previously worked at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg. She was a long-time member of Broad Avenue United Methodist Church, Altoona. Freda loved playing cards and gardening and teaching these loves to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Friends will be received from noon until the 2 p.m. funeral service, Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, at the Brown Funeral Home, 565 Ridgley St., Orbisonia. Pastor John Collins of the First Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will be at the family's convenience at the Old Methodist Cemetery, Maddensville, PA.
