James W. Stallard was a Methodist Minister (Exhorter). He bought 70 acres of land in Lincoln County, Tennessee in 1814; sold it in 1817. He bought land in Orange and Anderson Townships in Rush County, Indiana; last purchase Nov 24, 1840.

St Paul Methodist Church, Rushville, Indiana:
"The earliest public record that I could find pertaining to a Methodist congregation in Rushville was the recording of the election held at the office of John Alley in Rushville on May 1, 1828, when John Lower, James Stallard, John McCary, John T Birt and William Newel were elected Trustees for the Methodist Episcopal Society Church at Rushville, Indiana. John Allen was Clerk of the election."
