William Dix was born Sept. 29, 1853 in Wales to William Dix and Martha Davies Dix. His birth certificate gives his birthplace as "Aberdulais, Dylais Lower, Cadoxton." According to family lore, Bill was a champion boxer in Wales. At one time he held the Light Heavy Weight title for the British Isles. He married Elvira Jones in 1874. Children: Dave, Tom, Will, Elizabeth, Dan, Mary, and Martha. (All 3 of the daughters died in early childhood.) The family emigrated to the United States in 1881 and settled in Cedar City, Utah, where Bill worked as a day laborer and coal miner. After Elvira's death, he married Emma Goodfellow Holland, the widow of William Holland. William died Dec. 14, 1928, in Cedar City.
