Helen S. (Ring) Sellner was born Jan. 31, 1916, in Medford to John and Edith (Hoover) Ring. When she was 5, her family moved to Faribault. She was baptized and confirmed in the United Methodist Church and became an active member. Her education began at Lincoln Elementary School, and she graduated from Faribault High School with the class of 1933. She continued her education at Mankato State College, University of Minnesota, and the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va.

On July 5, 1940, she married Donald F. Wallace, who died in 1967. In 1974 she married Arthur M. Sellner, who died in 1995. She had one daughter, Estelle Kay (Wallace) Vollmers.

She became an elementary teacher and began her career in the rural schools of Rice County. During World War II she taught in Norfolk and Newport News, Va. Returning to Faribault, she taught and retired from Lincoln Elementary School after 23 years. A conservation unit taught by Helen in 1967 resulted in her Lincoln fifth-graders spearheading the acquisition and naming of Shager Memorial Park on Cannon Lake. Her interest in children and the outdoors led her to become a director of the MISCCA day camp for 42 handicapped children one summer.

Mrs. Sellner is a life member of the National Education Association, a member of the Lambda Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, an international honorary sorority for outstanding women educators. She held several offices in this organization, including president of the chapter.

Since her retirement, she has been busy with her flower gardens, making quilts for her grandchildren and designing her own correspondence cards.

She is survived by her son-in-law, Mark Vollmers and family of Milwaukee, Wis.; her stepdaughter, Carol (and Morris) Anderson and family of Faribault; a stepson, Steven (and Stephanie) Sellner of Honolulu, Hawaii; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and many close friends and relatives. She is also survived by sisters, Margaret Puffer of Faribault, Hazel Voss of St. Charles, Jean Puffer of Spencer, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Verna Ring of Garland, Texas; two brothers, John (and Loretta) Ring of St. Paul and James (and Maren) Ring of Albert Lea; and a sister-in-law, Marge Ring of Faribault.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Arthur M. Sellner and Donald F. Wallace; her daughter, Estelle Kay Vollmers; a stepson, Bruce Sellner; her sisters, Marian Gangloff, Florence Lawson and Dorothy Voge; and her brothers, Orville and Avison Ring.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be given to Fourth Avenue United Methodist Church, Trinity Radio Club, the Salvation Army or the donor's choice.
