After she was widowed in 1965, she went to work at the United Association of Plumbers and Pipe Fitters in 1966. Later, she became the administrator for their new Local Union Officers' Pension Fund until she retired in 1979. She believed in the power of unions; not only did she work for a union, but both of her parents, her husband, her children, and many of her grandchildren and her extended family have too.
She loved to read and later traveled to the places she had read about. She visited 48 states, Canada, 31 countries, and sailed on Caribbean cruises several times.
She was encouraged by her mother to be politically active. She volunteered when she could and belonged to two Democratic clubs. One of her biggest thrills was when she was a hostess at President Jimmy Carter's Inaugural Ball.
She enjoyed her life and the all the people in it. She changed with the times and did not dwell in the past. Her last words were "think happy thoughts".
June was survived by three of her siblings: Aubra MacRae "Rae" Hilton, Henry "Archer" Thomas, Aubra Russell "Kitty" Hochhauser; three sons: George Henry Bliss III, James O'Donovan "Jim" Bliss, and John Thomas "Jack" Bliss; nine grandchildren: Holly, Robin, Glenn, Mike, Greg, Katie, Dawn, John, Dani; 17 great-grandchildren: Jason, Gregory, Harrison, Kelsey, Shawn, Madison, Lauren, Megan, Ashley, Danielle, Chas, Luca, Sophia, Jillian, Tommy, Nick, and Madi; and one great-great-grandson: Wyatt.
