Anna M. Loar [Lonaconing]
LONACONING — Anna Mae Loar, 93, of 32 Watercliff St., Lonaconing, went to be with her Savior and Lord on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at home.
She was born in Rawlings, on Nov. 6, 1915, one of nine children of the late William and Desdemona (Powell) Loar. She was preceded in death by three brothers and their wives; George (Gladys), John (Irene) and Wesley (Helen) Loar; two sisters, Julia L. Loar, and Rose B. Loar; a niece, Janet Loar Russell and brother-in-law, William Llewellyn.
Anna is survived by three sisters, Mary P. Llewellyn, of Rawlings, Ella R. Fazenbaker and husband John Edison, and Esther N. Wiland and husband Melvin of Lonaconing. Also surviving are nine nephews and seven nieces.
Anna worked many different jobs from the time that she completed the 8th grade at the Dye School. Later, she attended many adult education classes, sewing school, and also attended Catherman's Business School. She retired from the Michael Berkowitz Sewing Factory in Grahamtown.
One of Anna's many hobbies was making carpet which kept her busy in her retirement years. She was invited to represent the State of Maryland during the Smithsonian Festival of American Folklife in 1986 on the Mall in Washington, D.C. Anna, along with her sister Julia, demonstrated the process of weaving rag rugs on her loom. They were treated like royalty and enjoyed every minute of the event in the Nation's Capital.
Anna was a faithful member of Bethel Holiness Church in Lonaconing, where she had been both a pianist and organist for many years. Representing the church, she and her sisters packed and shipped literature and clothing to be used at various mission stations in the United States and around the world. Anna had held the positions of Secretary, Treasury, and Trustee of her church, of which she was the oldest member.
Friends will be received at the Bethel Holiness Church on Bethel Drive, Lonaconing, on Monday, Oct. 12, from 3 to 6 p.m.
The celebration of Anna's life will be held in Bethel Holiness Church, on Monday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m. The service will be conducted by her nephew, Pastor George R. Loar and Pastor Gary L. Gordon.
Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Lonaconing.
