He was the son of Osborne David & Trithena (Groves) Castleman. In 1908, he married Lottie Stites. They were the parents of 9 children: Eunice, Buford, Wilford, Mildred, Jewell, Janetta, Harold, Winston, and Glenn.

Eunice married John Anderson Chapman. Mildred married Dr. Theodore Schindewolf, and second married Milton "Bud" Ens. Janetta married Ken Jackson.

On June 13, 1941 he married Blanche Barnes. They had 2 children: Paul & Michael. His stepchildren were Mary Smith, Nina Geiss, & Frank Barnes.
