J. E. Cooley, An Old Citizen Passes Away

J. E. Cooley, an old citizen of McLain died at Oklahoma City, January 17, 1824 and was buried at Spencer, Oklahoma. Mr. Cooley was born at Waymansville, Bartholomew County, Indiana, November 22, 1856 and was 67 years old at the time of his death. He was married to Miss Elizabeth Stilwell, October 23, 1879 at Portland, Indiana and moved to Kansas City in 1883. Later in 1886 he moved to the Indian Territory and settled west of Purcell. He made his home in and around Purcell continually since that time.

Mr. Cooley had been a sufferer for many years having been afflicted with curvature of the spine many years ago and later contracted tuberculosis which caused his death.

He leaves a wife and seven sons to mourn his death. Mr. Cooley was well known all over the county and has many friends who will be sorry to hear of his death and who extend their sympathy to the bereaved relatives. The Register extends its sympathy.

Birth date comes from Obit in Purcell Register dated 24 Jan 1924 so that could be wrong.
Death date comes from his death certificate which I have a copy of. He was my great-grandfather.
