US Congressman. He was admitted to the bar in 1819 and commenced the practice of law in Blenheim, South Carolina. In 1829, he was elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-first Congress, elected as a Nullifier to the Twenty-fifth Congress in 1831 and as a Democrat to the three succeeding Congresses serving 1837 to 1845.
