John Gilford (J. G.) Brower Sr., 90, of Water Valley, Miss., died January 20, 2013 at Baptist memorial Hospital in Oxford, Miss., Lafayette County. He was born November 26, 1922 Water Valley, Miss., Yalobusha County, the son of U. S. Brower and Vera Mosby Brower. He was a retired farmer and switchman for Illinois Central Railroad. He was a member of Turkey Creek Baptist Church, Pine Valley Historical Society, and was a WW11 vetern. He had a love of family, gardening, and farming.
His funeral service was Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Bruce, Miss. with bro. Charlie Fitts officiating. Burial was in Turkey Creek cemetery in Water Valley, Miss., Calhoun County. Pallbearers were Tim Gholson, Scoot Taylor, Zack Brower, Cody brower, Jake Campbell, and Derrick Woodard. Honorary pallbearers were Andy Grass, Billy B. Williamson, Colton brower, Zach Taylor, Trey Brower and Lynn Havens.
Survivors include four daughters, Linda B. (Jim) Gholson; Marty B. Taylor; Alice brower; all of Water Valley, Miss.; Ellen (Art) Samuel, Foley, Alabama; two sons; John (Carolyn) Brower Jr. and David (Sherry) Brower, both of Water Valley, Miss.; one sister, Charlotte (Andy) Grass, Water Valley, Miss.; sister-in-law, Argie Brower, Memphis, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren, Scoot (Shelly) Taylor, Tim (Emily) Gholson, Jake (Courtney) Campbell, John "Trey" (Laura) Brower, Cody brower, Lori (Drrick) Woodard, melissa (Chad) Kinzey, Angel Gholson, Zack Brower; Great-grandchildren, Corri A. Cook, Zach Taylor, Audrey A. Taylor, Kelsey Kimzey, Sidney Kimzey, Aaron Gholson, Reagan Gholson, and Bentlee Campbell. He was preceded in death by his wife, Oyer Olline Cofer Brower; three brothers, Danny, Eugene, and Sidney Brower; one sister, Joyce Tulley, and one grandson, Jason Rogers.
Memorial may be made to Turkey Creek Baptist Church building fund.
