Carl proudly served his country during WWII, and attained the rank of chief electrician's mate in the U. S. Navy. During his six years of service in both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, he was assigned to two aircraft carriers, the USS Bunker Hill and the USS Ranger.

He retired in 1981 from E. I. Dupont Co. in Martinsburg and worked part time with Mon Valley Travel Agency from 1992 to May 2000.

He served as an elder in both Little Falls and Pilgrim Presbyterian churches.
