Harry Beverly Dennis, 61, widely known area teacher, died at 4:30 a.m., Jan. 22, 1966, at Mobile Infirmary.
Survivors include his widow, Beulah Golden Dennis, Grand Bay, one son, Walter Beverly Dennis of Murphy, N.C., and his mother, Mrs. Belle Seager of Grand Bay. Also one uncle, Lucian Dennis of Rockford, Ill.
A native of Rockford, Ill, he became a resident of Mobile County for 50 years. He was a member of the Grand Bay Methodist Church, where he was serving as church recording steward, vice chairman of the board and a member of the choir.
He was a member of the Blue Lodge and Scottish Rite bodies of Masons, a member of the Grand Bay Chapter 178, Order of Eastern Star, where he served as worthy patron eight times.
He has taught school in the Mobile County School System for more than 30 years, holding positions at Murphy High and Barton Academy in Mobile, and was on the staff of Alba High in Bayou la Batre, where he taught shop, when he became ill.
He also has served as Scoutmaster and a volunteer Red Cross worker and instructor.
Funeral services were held Monday at 10 a.m. from the Grand Bay Methodist Church, with the Rev. Frank Hyles, Jr. and Rev. Samuel Shirah, Sr., officiating.
Burial was in Memorial Gardens in Mobile, with Masonic rites at the grave side, led by Brother Joe Southall of Mobile, past grandmaster of Masons in Alabama.
