BLOSSVALE — Lawayne "Doug" Rood, 67, of 2872 Powell Road, Blossvale, died Friday Oct. 2, 2009, at Community Memorial Hospital, Hamilton, following a lengthy illness. He was born on May 23, 1942, in State Bridge, the son of Miles and Avaline Cheseboro Rood.

Doug lived in Munnsville most of his life, attending the Stockbridge Valley Central School. He also lived in Camden, later living in Blossvale for the past 10 years.

He worked for Harden Furniture in McConnellsville for more than 20 years.

Surviving are: three brothers and a sister-in-law, Carl Rood of Utica, Richard Rood and his companion, Marian, of Port Byron, and Robert and Martha Rood of Oneida; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Bonnie and John Anderson of Munnsville, and Shirley Bonnell of Homosassa, Fla.; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Doug was predeceased by two brothers, Vernon Rood, and Norton Rood; and a sister, Betty Rutan.

Funeral services for Lawayne "Doug" Rood, 67, of Blossvale, will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009, at the Ball Funeral Home, Munnsville. The Rev. Neil D. Coe will officiate. Burial will be in Stockbridge Cemetery, Munnsville. Calling hours will be held Thursday from noon to 1 p.m., prior to the funeral, at the funeral home, 5327 N. Main St., Munnsville. In his memory, contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 5096 Commercial Drive, Yorkville, NY 13495, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
