Gospel preacher and an Alabama Power employee. He drowned in an accident at Mitchell Dam. Alabama Power announced that Robert Lynn Courtney, 52, a hydro journeyman at Mitchell Dam, died Tuesday morning in a tragic accident at the hydro generating plant near Verbena. Courtney, who lived in Verbena, was a 35-year employee of Alabama Power and had worked at Mitchell for 20 years. He was the preacher for the West End church of Christ in Clanton.

Robert Lynn Courtney, Sr, died Tuesday, July 22, 2008. Services will be held Friday, July 25, 2008 at West End Church of Christ at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in the Morning Star Baptist Church Cemetery, Verbena. He is survived by his wife, Retha Courtney, and five children, Tarsha Courtney, LaTonya Courtney, Robert Lynn Courtney, Jr., Mariah Courtney and Krystal Courtney.
