She was born Feb. 8, 1918, in Butte, to Bernard and Ellen (Caldwell) Hogan. She attended schools in Boulder and Basin. In 1941, she married James Bailey. They lived their entire married life in Helena, where they raised three daughters. They spent 50 wonderful years together before his death in 1991.

Bernie was employed for many years as a life insurance underwriter with Western Life Insurance and USF&G Insurance. She was active in American Business Women's Association and held a variety of offices, including president, in that organization. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Bernie was involved in many activities, including bowling, bingo, and crafts. She enjoyed the years she spent at Hunter's Point Retirement Community in Helena. Mostly she loved spending time with her family.
