The funeral of Alonzo D. Whitney, the founder of the Whitney Express, which was recently consolidated with the People's Express of this city, took place yesterday afternoon from the First M. E. Church. It was largely attended by friends of the deceased.
A coincidence was, that at the same hour, the obsequies of Mr. Whitney's old partner of thirty years ago in the forwarding business, Alex Gordon, was taking place in San Francisco.
At the Whitney funeral, Rev. Dr. Dille and Rev. Dr. J. K. McLean officiated.
The pall bearers were Herman Gard, A. D. Smith, Wm. McCarthy, Arthur S. Ward, A. Jonas and Lawrence Hyde.
The remains were interred in Mountain View Cemetery.
