Leila Riches

Funeral services for Leila B. Riches of Oxford Junction were held Saturday, May 26, 1990 at the Hayden Funeral Home in Oxford Junction. The Rev. Ramon Booth officiated. Burial was in Mayflower Cemetery.

Casket bearers were John Zaruba, Gerald Zaruba, James M. Teymer, Dennis Teymer, Gary Teymer and Phillip Koppes.

Leila Riches, 81, died May 23 at Crestridge Care Center in Maquoketa where she lived since 1979.She was born July 23, 1908 near Hale, daughter of Jacob and Maude Hamilton Kopes.

She graduated from Onslo High School. She earned a teaching certificate and taught school at a rural school near Oxford Junction.

She married Joseph VanSickel in June 1932 and the couple farmed near Oxford Junction unti he died in January 1952.

Leila married Joseph Riches in May 1954 and they lived in Wyoming until he died in December 1971.

Survivors include a sister Francis Zaruba of Maquoketa; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, three brothers, one sister and one half-sister.
