Ivan was born in Payette, ID and died in a non-hostile incident while serving as a Private First Class (PFC) in the U.S. Army Air Force while stationed in the Philippines. While living in Arizona, he attended Scottsdale High School with the class of 1949 where he was known as "Red" Edwards (as was his father0. Both his great-uncle and his uncle were named "Elisha" and it is highly likely that Ivan's middle initial stands for "Elisha" also. Red was 21.8 years old at the time of his death.
